November 28, 2008 - Dedicating the Nashil Lallani Info-Active Resource Centre

Late in 2003, the Arusha Centre moved from the cozy but cramped office upstairs to this larger and more accessible space on the main floor. With funds from the Wild Rose Foundation, the Arusha Centre was resurrecting the resource library and the project became the focus of Nash's work. He left his volunteer position on the Board to tackle the job. These 2,000 books, magazines, dvds and periodicals would not be here if it weren't for Nash. The shelves, the chairs, the furniture were all bought by Nash and then painstakingly put together and attached to the walls. Nash added a number of new resources to this unique collection covering a wide variety of topics including globalization, international and community development, anti-racism, socially responsible investing, urban and environmental sustainability and more. A database and library management system was created by Nash with help from Grant Neufeld. This database of titles is searchable online and Calgarians from all walks of life now access this library. This Arusha Info-Action Resource Centre is about taking the information on these shelves into action. We support local, grassroots social and environmental justice organizations. We offer this comfortable, friendly and functional space for groups and individuals to access the wall-to-wall social justice resources, read periodicals, access computers, watch videos, plan events, knit, chat and enjoy a cup of coffee. Nash Lallani was instrumental in creating this community. We would like to honour and acknowledge his contribution to Arusha through this dedication. While he is no longer with us physically, his spirit and memory will live on here in this lively and thriving activist community.
